SMART LENS SURGERY

What are Smart Lenses?

Smart lenses are artificial lenses placed inside the eye. The human eye has a transparent natural lens that provides visual function. Thanks to this lens, we can see both near and far clearly. However, as we age, this natural lens becomes cloudy and loses its flexibility. This condition causes a visual impairment called cataracts and vision becomes blurred, as if looking through fogged glass.

Smart lenses are a widely preferred solution in cataract treatment.

How to Use Smart Lenses?

In cataract surgeries, the natural lens that has lost its transparency is removed and replaced with smart lenses that are permanently placed inside the eye. These lenses can be preferred not only in cataract patients, but also in vision disorders such as high-grade myopia, hyperopia and astigmatism. Different types of smart lenses, such as trifocal and multifocal lenses, are widely used in hospitals.

What are the Smart Lens Types?

**Multifocal Smart Lenses:** Bifocal multifocal lenses allow clear vision of both near and far without glasses.

**Trifocal Smart Lenses:** Trifocal trifocal lenses offer clear vision at mid-distance as well as near and far. Trifocal lenses are very effective in situations requiring medium distance, such as watching computer and television.

Who Can Use Smart Lenses?

Smart lenses are suitable for cataract patients and people who do not want to wear glasses. It is frequently recommended for individuals aged 45 and over who have distance, near or medium distance vision problems. It is also preferred in patients with eye conditions that are too high to be corrected with laser. However, before the procedure, it is necessary to evaluate in detail whether the eye structure is suitable or not.

How is Smart Lens Operation Done?

Smart lens application is an operation that requires expertise and experience. The procedure is done on separate days for both eyes and takes approximately 10 minutes. The number and angles of the lens to be placed in the eye are carefully calculated. Local anesthesia is applied to avoid pain during the surgery. After the operation, patients can return to their daily lives within a few days and complete the recovery process with drop treatment.

Thanks to smart lenses, patients can have clear vision without glasses at distance, near and middle distance for a lifetime.
