EYELID AESTHETICS

Eyelid surgery, also known as blepharoplasty, is a surgical procedure performed to remove or reshape excess skin and fatty tissues around the eyes. This procedure is generally performed for aesthetic reasons and is preferred to eliminate signs of aging and achieve a younger appearance. However, in some cases, sagging skin can narrow the field of vision, in which case the procedure becomes a medical necessity.

What is Blepharoplasty?

Blepharoplasty is a surgery performed to correct sagging, bagging and other signs of aging in the eyelids. It can be applied to both upper and lower eyelids. While sagging is corrected by removing excess skin on the upper eyelid, bags and wrinkles are eliminated on the lower eyelid. This provides a fresher and more dynamic look.

How is Blepharoplasty Done?

Eyelid surgery is usually performed under local anesthesia, but general anesthesia may be preferred in large-scale procedures. The duration of the surgery usually varies between 1-2 hours.

Lower Eyelid: Excess skin and fatty tissues are removed through a small incision made just below the eyelashes. In this way, bags and sagging under the eyes are eliminated.
Upper Eyelidi: Excess skin and muscle tissue is removed through an incision made at the eyelid fold line, and the sagging of the eyelid is corrected.

After the procedure, the scars are usually not visible as they will remain within the eyelid folds.

Types of Eyelid Surgery

Upper Eyelid Aesthetics:
Classic Upper Blepharoplasty: The incision is made at the eyelid fold line and excess skin and fatty tissue are removed.
Transconjunctival Upper Blepharoplasty:An incision is made on the inside of the eyelid and excess skin is removed without leaving a scar.

Lower Eyelid Aesthetics:
Classic Lower Blepharoplasty: Excess fat and skin are removed through an incision made under the eyelashes.
Transconjunctival Alt Blepharoplasty:Bags are removed by making an incision on the inside of the eyelid.

Pre-Surgery Preparation

It is of great importance to follow your doctor's instructions before surgery. It may be necessary to avoid blood thinners, not to smoke, and to fast for a certain period of time before the day of surgery. Additionally, your general health condition is evaluated through preoperative examinations.

Post-Surgery Recovery Process

Swelling and bruising may occur after the surgery, which will resolve spontaneously within a few weeks. Cold compresses, eye drops and other care methods recommended by the doctor accelerate healing. You can usually return to daily activities within 1-2 weeks, but it is recommended to avoid heavy exercises.
